Whaaats happenin,

the lesson today is mother knows best. she was right when she told me to look both ways to before crossing the street, she was right when she informed me that she always new best and she was sure as shit right when she told me that renting a motorcycle/scooter thingy was a terrible idea. I had one today and was ripping down the road, when i hit a wet patch and i suddenly noticed that i was sliding face first down the street on my face. sigh. so ya that was a pretty terrible experience, and i have officially retired from my potential career in motocross. fret not though mom, i am aight. some seriOS road rash on my arm and leg, and i think i busted my thumb, but the good news is that the medical care in ios is first rate, well actually it doesnt exist, but the pharmacist who gave me the medicine was really nice.

anyways, ios is a very cool place and ive met many great people. unfortunately the mohawk guy left before i could see him the next day and give him a massive awkward face because guys with mohawks dont often pour their hearts out to strangers, but c'est la vie. ive been relaxing during the day listening to alot of tunes. a cool song ive been listening to by sarah harmer/weeping tile, which isnt really my style of music (i'm a jann arden kindof guy) but its a good song, cuz its about graduating from queens/university and not knowing if it was a waste of money, what to do now, etc... familiar problem eh. off to crete tomorrow and getting really excited to pay 10 dollars a beer and see everyone in london.

Holla,

I want to toss some pics up but I am quite stupid and this interweb isnt helping me do so, its pretty slow. Well I am in Ios, and it's a pretty rad place. I am staying at a great hostel called francescos. the island is pretty dead compared to the summer, but still lots of ppl here and having a solid time.

I arrived and was put in a room with a nice aussie dude named adam. we were chatting for quite a while and i happened to mention that i really liked australian people, adn there was only one i ever met that really sucked, and her name is kat ternes and she worked at my camp. he looked at me kind of weird, but i didnt think much of it. anyways later on i asked him his last name and i thought he said 'ternes' and i responded with a muttered "fuck". it looked to me at this point that i had told him the one person i genuinely disliked on his entire fuckin continent was like his sister or something. so i spent the rest of the nite trying to smooth things over, and bought him a bunch of drinks so that hopefully he would be so wasted he would forget that i said i despised his relation. anyways we reached a point where i am pretty sure he thought that i was hitting on him because i had liquored him up so much, it somehow came up at that his name is actually burns, not ternes. so i am basically broke, sigh.

we were at a bar called flames and i was given a sticker, which i put on my shirt cuz it 3was amazing, and i think it said "flames bar: we are flaaaming". so i pretty much loved it, but some aussie guy tried to take it off my shirt and i got very very upset. as most of you know, im a lover not a fighter, but this was probably the first time in my life i actually tried to start a fight, and it was over a fucking sticker. lets just say that kat ternes now has some company on the "strongly disliked australian list".

when i got back from the bar to the hostel i started talking to a nice but cocky fellow from vacnvouver with a mohawk. with such light opening conversation topics as teh vancouver canucks and the croc hunter, colour me surprised that the conversation ended 4 hours later with the sun coming up and him crying on my shoulder that his life was so materialistic and unfulfilling.

oh ya, did i mention that i saw gwyneth paltrow in heathrow on my way here with her baby suri (or is that tom cruises gay coverup baby, im a little out of touch). i was gonna follow her and start humming clocks really loudly to see if i could impress her, but i thought a restraining order would be a bad start to the trip.

anyways, im here for 2 more days and then off to crete, and then to london to see my pals. keep firing me emails, theyre amazing. graham smith wins so far for best email, with a definite honourable mention for my old roomy geoff. hope all is well,

dunc

Hello,

Not much time. I've been on Santorini for the past 4 days and let me say that it is a pretty unbelievable spot. It is really unlike anywhere I've ever been to, with sheer volcanic cliffs rising straight out of the water, and all of the little towns have amazing views over the caldera. At the same time it is basically 3000 newlywed couples and myself, so this is like a much blown up and real life version of You,Me and Dupree, sigh. Haha, anyways, since the nightlife isnt too hot, I've been keeping myself amused with the ATV I rented and have been ripping up the island much like intercourse dave levin ripped up the walls of our house on many an occasion. heading to ios tomorrow. i've started to hit my stride as far as being alone and so far away from everyone, although i sure as shit wouldnt mind a nice wednesday classic rock smijies night right about now. anyways, fire me an email when you get a shot, and sorry if you recieved the mass email that said nothing,

dunc

So don't judge me, I started a blog. But just cuz I didnt want to have to write 1200 emails just to keep in touch with everyone. That doesnt mean that you can stop writing me tho, I've been so happy with all the emails everyone has been sending and it improves my mood unbelievably.

So for those that don't know I'm in Greece right now. The first leg of my trip was homecoming at Queen's and it was absolutely unreal. Now I'm in Greece for a few weeks, then to London for about a week and then on to Africa for 2.5 months.

I arrived in Athens and made my way to my hostel and was pretty proud of myself, except for the fact that the hostel had given away the room I had booked, which was not good. So I had to carry around my massive pack around dark downtown Greek-speaking Athens and I did not have fun doing this. I eventually found the only hotel in the city with an open room, except that it was a tad expensive and as a result I blew pretty much all of my money on this first night. But, I was happy to have a place and plugged in my ipod, excited to relax and listen to music. Instead, my ancient adapter blew up, electrocuted me and blew the lights in my hotel. Sigh.

So the next day I got up and did the acropolis thing, blah blah blah. It was all right, pretty cool to see and all that, but there were so many thousands of people there, it kind of took away from it. So, I decided to hop on a bus and I went to this little town called Kalambaka. A very cool place, and I spent my bday hiking around the mountains and these sheer cliffs with monasteries perched on them. It was unreal, but a pretty lonely birthday to tell you the truth.

Anyways, I have learned alot of things already about alot of different stereotypes and other things too,

1)Germans really do sound angry as shit when they talk, no matter if they are angry or not. I thought I was about to get mauled by a group of senior citizens from Germany spitting angry tirades at me, when they all smiled and handed me a sandwich and a juicebox

2)Americans think it's hilarious to say that I'm a Canadan from Canadia...so hilarious

3)the new nokia phones have video capability....which may be used by a british punk rocker dude to watch gay porn for 4 hours on the bus seat in front of me. sigh.

4)Asian people often do replace the letter 'R' for 'L'. These 2 Japanese girls were telling me about all the places they had travelled: India, Turkey, Spain and Tirand. So when they said tirand i thought they meant tehran, so i asked them what must have been many very fucked up questions and shaking my head with a what-the-fuck-were-you-thinking-look, and asking, uh what was it like there? and nobody i know has ever travelled to that country before, which made them look at me like i was retarded. then i realized there was no full moon party in iran, and that they meant thailand. but then it got really confusing, cuz it turned out they actually had been to iran.

anyways, overall I am doing well. I think more than anything I wasn't really expecting to feel so lonely at times. Travelling by yourself is a very weird thing. The major positive is that you always feel free, and are always able to do whatever you want. But there are times when I just really miss everyone alot and wish one of you guys was here with me. It's not hard to meet people at all, it's just meeting people I like that can be a problem. I guess the positive in that is that it really makes me realize who is important to me and how amazing all my friends and family are. So if youre reading this I probably love the shit out of you and you should know that. All of the emails have been amazing, please keep them up, I want to hear what people are up to. Talk to you soon.
